Yum Yum Sugar over Salt

Yum Yum Sugar over Salt

I absolutely love European cakes, desserts, and cookies! Polish, French, and Greek are ones that you will find most often on my site. I use recipes from the old recipe notebooks given by my babcia and also look for traditional recipes in old cookbooks, which became my passion (and an obsession a little bit too!). You will find me taking traditional recipes and putting my own touch in some of my bakes. I like to mix elements, Polish sponge with French mousse. Delish!

Cakes, cookies or desserts don’t always have to be complicated but they MUST taste scrumptious! European recipes are sooo delicious, but also known to be a little complicated or time-consuming. I simplify them without cutting any corners, like using store-bought phyllo dough when making a galaktoboureko, a traditional Greek dessert.

All my bakes are made from scratch. I appreciate the instant custards and pre-packaged box cakes but find the best testing bakes when I make them from scratch. They really don’t take that much more time, and you know exactly what ingredients you are using!

One big factor when I bake is flavor! You will taste in my recipes the flavor of the fruit or custard rather than being bombarded by the sugar.

But my real secret is my fantastic mentors – first my grandma and then my neighbor Korina who has many years of baking experience and has been very patient with me. For the past two decades, we have been baking away together and having real fun with it!

When baking, the key is to have fun, not to get discouraged or be afraid of trying something new and follow your imagination.
